10 Signs You’re Ready for a Detox

Our homes, minds, bodies and spirits could all use a little sprucing up now and then – but how do we know when it’s time to detox? Our bodies communicate to us every day and it’s important to listen carefully to what it is telling us in order to make sure we are providing it with the care and nutrients it needs.

– Frequent headaches

…then you probably need a detox.

All of these symptoms are related to the level of built up toxins and chemicals in your body that hinders its ability to digest, rest and perform properly. This can lead to sleepless nights, foggy days, cravings and overall discomfort – which is your body’s way of telling you you need to detox.

If you have a diet high in sugars – you’re more likely to crave sugary snacks and crappy food, thus creating a vicious cycle of poor nutrition. And with our skin being an “exit organ” – poor food choices and toxins exit through the skin – causing breakouts or acne.

Our bodies were not created to digest man-made chemicals and toxins with ease – or at all. We as humans have created a society where chemicals and toxic foods are cheap and easily accessible. With bright packaging and smart placement within stores – these foods are always readily available to cater to our cravings, emotions and lack of nutritional knowledge. Although they are okay in moderation, they should not be part of our daily food intake.

We have brainwashed ourselves into thinking crappy foods will make us feel better or that dairy products build strong bones. When what we really need is real food from the earth that can nourish our bodies.

As we mindlessly shovel these chemicals and toxins into our mouths, our bodies are working overtime to process them and get them out of our system. There is never time for rest when you’re having a sugar and dairy filled coffee for breakfast, poutine for lunch, a hearty steak for dinner and chips before bed.

We as a society need to become passionate about our bodies, our minds and our spirits. We need to nourish all three in order to live a happy, fulfilled and productive life.

But, why should you listen to me? Who am I to come in and start nitpicking on how society eats and makes food choices?

Well, four years ago I was a chicken-nugget connoisseur. I worked at a bar. I went out often and ate out often. I was also extremely picky and only ate foods that were familiar (i.e., fries, cheese, nuggets, burgers and sugary snacks). I could sleep 16 hours a day and was notorious for my bad memory.

Over time I started to become sick and tired of being sick and tired. I knew I needed to change and I needed to change drastically.

It was a slow process, but I began to become more conscious of my eating habits, I read nutrition book after nutrition book, subscribed to vegan blogs and newsletters. I started to familiarize myself with how to use the appliances in the kitchen.

Once I started healing myself from within – everything changed. I wasn’t anxious, I wasn’t depressed, I wasn’t napping twice a day. I watched my body change and felt my brain fog lift. Being productive didn’t seem so impossible.

Which is why I started this platform in the first place. I wanted to share the things I’ve taken action on and hopefully inspire at least one person out there who may be in the same boat.

All of us need to wake up and take the time to listen to what our bodies are telling us.

We need to learn about proper nutrition and how we can rid ourselves of these harmful chemicals and toxins that are taking away from our quality of life.

There are many, many, many different detoxes you can try to help cleanse your system. From intermittent fasting to juice cleanses to just eating clean – find the one that’s right for you and your lifestyle. If you’ve never cleansed before, I would start small and work your way toward longer/more intense ones.
